Naomi’s Story

Naomi is the proud parent of three Homestead High graduates and was an active in PTSA, School Site Council and Team Parent. Her children are fourth generation Sunnyvale residents, and she is embedded in the Sunnyvale community.

As a social worker, Naomi brings extensive experience in community leadership and nonprofit executive management, with a focus on mental health, substance use, and poverty and violence prevention.

Her professional work has included supporting Asian and Pacific Islander American communities; children and youth; and girls, young women, women and communities of color. Throughout her career, she has worked alongside parents, students, educators, community members, and City, County, and State leaders to strengthen communities, expand opportunity, and improve outcomes for children, youth, and families.

Naomi’s passion for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion has shaped both her professional career and her public service. She believes that building a better future for the next generation means listening to young people, understanding the barriers they face, and working together to create meaningful opportunities for every student. It is also delving deep to understand systems that continue to provide barriers to student success.

She has co-founded several community organizations, served on nonprofit boards, and been an active volunteer with numerous local and statewide community organizations. She has also served on Santa Clara County commissions. Naomi was a lay chaplain and provided spiritual support to incarcerated residents.

• Housing and Community Development Advisory Committee of Santa Clara County

• City of Sunnyvale’s Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee

• American Leadership Forum Senior Fellow Class XXIV

Naomi has been recognized for her service, some of those honors include:

• Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition by US Congressman Ro Khanna

• Very Special Person Award by Homestead High School PTSA

• Legacy Award by Sister to Sister-Asian American Recovery Services (twice)

• Community Impact Honoree by the Asian Law Alliance

• Woman of the Year by State Senator Joe Simitian, District 11

For Naomi, leadership is about service, listening, collaboration, and making a meaningful difference. Whether she is working with a student, family, educator, community organization, or fellow elected official, she brings the same commitment: to build stronger communities and ensure that every young person has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
